2017 Édition Limitée Chardonnay Magnum
Our 2017 Édition Limitée Chardonnay welcomes you with a charming, aromatic nose of white flowers and honeyed top notes of vanilla and peach. On the palate, there is focus and structure, with excellent balance and a long, memorable finish. The Édition Limitée always reminds me of what Chardonnay can achieve.
A cool, wet spring slowed the arrival of bud break, but warming temperatures made for a very productive summer. By late August, moderate weather set in, allowing fruit maturation to slow. By the middle of September, temperatures were perfect. Over the course of nearly three weeks, we were able to harvest parcel by parcel, each at the optimal level of ripeness. In the end, 2017 gave us beautifully balanced fruit with delightful flavors and lovely length.
The oldest Chardonnay blocks on our Dundee Hills estate are now 25 years old, and we have always believed that Oregon Chardonnay would take an equal place alongside Pinot Noir, just as it does in Burgundy. At harvest, all of our Chardonnay is hand-picked, hand-sorted, whole-bunch pressed and then sent to barrel. By June the following year, Véronique Drouhin is deep into the process of creating the small selection of barrels that will become Édition Limitée. Our EL Chardonnay is known for elegance, intensity, precision and great length on the palate – all Drouhin hallmarks.
